PART TWO: CONCEPTUAL
IB HL Art Project: Identity

Notes: Initial concept created in the development stage for the sketchbook
Size: approximately 3-4 ft.
Medium: Mixed— plaster gauze, TV frame, acrylic sheet, Polaroids, acrylic paint
Notes: Main sculpture piece— a surreal representation of a deep desire to free oneself from externally imposed labels and superficial perception. An old unusable tv was scavenged and deconstructed for the head, and the screen recreated with an acrylic sheet. The effect seen in the text was achieved by etching the acrylic before filling the etchings with paint. The plaster gauze body is reinforced with a masking tape casing, wire, and newspaper

The Simorgh
Size: A5 (148 x 210 mm)
Medium: Gouache on Paper
Notes: An interpretation of the Simorgh from Persian Mythology and inspired by Farid ud-Din Attar’s tale “The Conference of Birds”. The main silhouette is made up of 30 smaller birds, representing the 30 birds in the tale that journey to the dwelling place of the Simorgh. The colours create a fiery effect to indicate that this creature was the blueprint for what is known today as a Phoenix.
